Honeymoon Day 6 - August 3, 2008

Location - Tortola, BVI, 7AM – 1PM

Today we woke up in Tortola, the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It is also the largest of the BVI, covering 28 square miles. Tortola means “land of the turtle doves” and was named by Christopher Columbus. Approximately 25,000 people live in the BVI, and 17,500 of them live in Tortola.

Our tour left at 8 AM today so we were up and ready nice and early! A ferry met our group outside of the ship. It was raining and the clouds looked ominous, but we went anyway! The ferry took us on a 40-minute ride to Virgin Gorda, home to the famous Baths.

The Baths are small pools of water created by enormous boulders that were left behind from a volcanic eruption. The boulders also created awesome caves and grottos that you walk through to get to hidden pools and beaches. Some of the openings were so tight you practically had to crawl in your hands and knees…in water! We had fun exploring the caverns, playing on the rocks, and trying out the native fruit.

Our tour was short because we had to be back on the ship by 12:30. Once we got back, we showered, went to lunch, and took a nap. The sun really takes a lot out of you here!

Tonight’s dinner was at Sterlings Steakhouse, which is the other special restaurant you can eat at for an additional charge. Our reservation was at 8PM, so we had some time to kill.

We hopped online in the internet bar, had a drink, and checked out some of our wedding pictures that were already posted to our photographer’s website. And as usual, our dinner was delicious. Rob has been a little under the weather, so we came back to our room after dinner and turned in early.

We’ve been married for one week now…so far, so good!
